Background
Southmoor Academy are a large and successful 11-18 academy with a strong sense of community, aspiration and achievement. This is reflected in our motto ‘Aspire, Achieve, Enjoy’. Southmoor is one of the city’s highest performing non – faith academies and the lead sponsor within a Multi Academy Trust. Southmoor goes far beyond striving for academic excellence. It’s a school that supports personal development by providing our pupils with opportunities to explore and develop their own interests and talents. This may take the form of sport, creative arts, after school or lunchtime clubs, peer support, personal development or a wealth of regular educational visits as part of our extra – curricular commitment.
At Southmoor we pride ourselves on being a school with its heart in the community, we believe that if lessons are exciting and challenging, if young people are successful, if they are involved in their learning and in school life, then it will be the springboard to lifelong learning and the pursuit of excellence.
At Southmoor our standards and expectations are high!
Requirement
To replace the existing boiler plant with a gas boiler combined with air source heat pump to the effect of a Hybrid system design. The pipework within the plantroom was replaced with both welded steel and copper industrial tube. Enertech FM dedicated a Project Manager holding SMSTS as the Trusts main point of contact during the project life cycle.
Enertech FM delivered every time, once again delivering a very complex project on time and on budget.
Our Response
Enertech FM coordinated a crane contract lift, lifting the air source heat pumps onto the designed loading bay. Inverter driven pumps were installed and rewired by Enertech FM’s M&E team co-ordinating with the BMS specialist during commissioning / setting up of these components. An extensive amount of corroded pipework was stripped out and replaced with stainless steel press pipework throughout the school, all installed by fully qualified pipe fitters holding City & Guilds apprenticeship NVQ L3, with our leading chargehand holding SSSTS competency. Our Mechanical Project Manager (SMSTS) communicated well with our client throughout the project lifecycle via telecom calls, emails and regular progress review meetings, ensuring the health & safety, quality, time management and customer satisfaction was delivered first class.
Upon commissioning of the system specialist subcontractors were engaged to balance the system to match the system required flow rates through the index circuit and main draw off points.
An insulation contractor was engaged to insulate the external pipework with PIB insulation and the internal pipework with foil faced above ceiling voids and isogenopac to the plantrooms fully ID labelled up.
The school staff were provided with a site-specific health and safety induction upon their first visit to school during the works. The Mechanical Project Manager ensured the school staff were aware of the ‘Live’ risks and the fast programme onsite. A one-way transport system was in place, and with added barriers and signage provided a safe basis for the works to continue whilst the school staff were operating in safe areas of the building.
All certification, warranties, as fitted drawings and manufactures information was presented to the client in the format of an O&M file during the practical completion / handover meeting.
Result
Enertech FM have once again delivered, we have now partnered with them on several projects. This project was particularly challenging as all works needed to be carried out over several school holidays, so completing each aspect of the project on time was paramount. Enertech FM delivered every time, once again delivering a very complex project on time and on budget.
