Responsibilities

Boiler House Upgrade & BMS Panel Replacement

Background

Fell Dyke is a school in Gateshead that welcomes children aged 3 to 11 and families from a wide range of backgrounds and with diverse needs. The school’s ethos centres on creating an inclusive environment where every member of the community feels valued and respected.

Fell Dyke takes pride in its nurturing approach, ensuring the school is not only a place of safety and friendship, but also a hub of encouragement and high achievement. The dedicated staff are the backbone of the school. Their unwavering commitment and support play a vital role in providing pupils with outstanding educational experiences and the highest quality pastoral care.

Requirement

The project involved replacing the existing boiler plant with two gas condensing boilers as part of a fully designed mechanical solution, including the replacement of all existing pumps, valves, pipework, and associated ancillaries; the removal and renewal of all pipework using welded steel and copper industrial tube; the installation and commissioning of a new Building Management System (BMS) panel; and the installation of internal air temperature sensors throughout the school to enable remote operation of the system, thereby improving performance and allowing Gateshead Council to monitor and manage the system effectively.

Our Response

Enertech FM managed the complete scope of works, ensuring all plant and material deliveries were properly coordinated, scheduled, and delivered to the designated storage areas on-site. Waste management was fully planned and executed in line with the project timeline, with all waste safely removed.

Scaffolding was erected to the chimney stack to provide safe access for flue installation. Once complete, the scaffolding was dismantled, and materials were removed from site.

All onsite personnel were fully qualified pipefitters holding City & Guilds NVQ Level 3 qualifications. Our lead chargehand was SSSTS certified, and the project was overseen by a Mechanical Project Manager holding SMSTS certification. The Project Manager maintained close communication with the client throughout the lifecycle of the project via phone calls, emails, and regular progress meetings, ensuring first-class delivery in terms of health and safety, quality, time management, and customer satisfaction.

All school staff received a site-specific health and safety induction prior to their first visit during the works. The Mechanical Project Manager kept staff informed of live risks and the fast-paced programme on site. A one-way transport system was implemented, supported by clear signage and barriers, to maintain a safe working environment while the school remained operational in designated safe zones.

At the handover meeting, all certification, warranties, ‘as-fitted’ drawings, and manufacturer documentation were presented to the client in the form of a comprehensive Operations & Maintenance (O&M) file.

Result

Enertech FM successfully completed a complex project within school environment, on time and within budget, demonstrating our ability to deliver high-quality mechanical solutions while prioritising safety, communication, and client satisfaction.
