Requirement
Following a tender process, Enertech FM were awarded the contract for a major programme of works at The BRIT School. Central to the win was stripping out the existing boilers and calorifiers from three separate plant rooms. Then we removed the chiller units from the roof, prior to installing three air source heat pumps.
From an efficiency point of view, we improved energy efficiency by 200% by removing the boilers and chillers and installing air source heat pumps.
Our Response
Lee Roberts, Contract Manager led the project for Enertech FM and was on site for the duration of the project. He encountered various logistical issues during the project, due to the location of the existing equipment. In order to remove the existing chiller and put the air source heat pumps in we utilised a crane as this was the safest way to complete the job.
The air source heat pumps provides both heating and cooling for the 1400 students and teachers on site. As part of the project, we installed a new BMS system which allows us to remotely dial in, to affect any changes should any adverse weather happen.
During the installation we put in over 1,000 metres of piping foe the new system, which we trace heated, lagged and PIB clad to ensure optimal efficiency.
We also had to supply a new electrical power system, pulling over 3,000 metres of cable onto the roof and throughout the building to power the new system.
The final element of the installation was the boilers and calorifiers which were installed in a brand-new plant room. The old plant rooms will be converted into learning spaces for the pupils.
Result
Michael Sanford, Facilities Manager at The BRIT School was extremely impressed with the work undertaken by Enertech FM. Enertech FM were excellent. The project involved a number of complicated elements and some very key timings, all of which were managed and planned very well and delivered to time and budget.
